The 17th annual Tom Glavine's Spring Training

Atlanta Brave’s pitcher Tom Glavine and a wide range of all-star athletes from around the nation teamed up on Friday, February 6, for the 17th annual “Tom Glavine’s Spring Training” event benefiting the Georgia Transplant Foundation (GTF). The event was held at the Georgia Aquarium’s Oceans Ballroom and raised $300,000 for transplant candidates, recipients, living donors, and their family members throughout Georgia.

Athletes in attendance at the event included John Smoltz, Jeff Francoeur, Tim Hudson, David Greene, Morten Andersen, and Kelly Johnson, to name a few. The amazing night also featured live and silent auctions with items including guitars signed by Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, as well as a piece featuring 18 presidential first pitch photos and autographs.

“Our 17th annual Tom Glavine’s Spring Training was an overwhelming success,” said David Bakelman, Executive Director of the Georgia Transplant Foundation. “Thanks to the athletes, sponsors and volunteers who helped pull this event together, we can continue to provide essential services to Georgia’s organ transplant populations.”

Top sponsors for the event included: Piedmont Healthcare, Applecreek Management Co. Inc., Diermeier Family Foundation, Saint Joseph’s Hospital, “Chipping in for Life” Golf Tournament, and Forensic Pathology Services P.C.

Since the event’s debut in 1992, “Tom Glavine’s Spring Training” has raised more than $4.5 million to benefit the Georgia Transplant Foundation. GTF uses the funds to provide emergency financial assistance, mentoring, scholarships, and a host of other services to more than 8,500 Georgians affected by organ transplantation.

Founded in Atlanta in 1992, the Georgia Transplant Foundation (GTF) is a non-profit organization providing financial, educational, and emotional support to transplant candidates, recipients, living donors, and their families throughout the state of Georgia. GTF is funded through the generosity of the Carlos and Marguerite Mason Trust, corporations and individuals. Eighty-five percent of all funds raised directly supports Georgia’s organ transplant community. For more information, please visit www.gatransplant.org or call toll free 1.866.428.9411.
