Scholarships Provide Hope to Students
5/12/2005 -

"I have wonderful news! I have been accepted into MCG Medical School for the upcoming school year. Yay! I am so excited. I have been waiting for this my whole life. Thank you GTF for all of your support and encouragement and for never questioning my ability to make it." - GTF scholarship winner and transplant recipient Kathryn Smith

Because transplantation can pose financial hardships for the entire family unit, GTF established an educational scholarship program to support families with post high-school educational expenses. Funds will be awarded for tuition, room and board, or books and supplies.

The Thomas F. Smith Scholarship is awarded annually to a transplant recipient in honor of Tommy Smith, a kidney recipient who founded GTF in 1992.

The Dunkerley Scholarship, honoring founding board members Dick and Pat Dunkerley and their family, is awarded to the dependant of a transplant recipient.

The Theresa Lackey Living Donor Scholarship, endowed by the Lumpkin family, will be awarded for the third year to a living donor.

The Riticher Accounting Education Scholarship is endowed by Carolyn Riticher, CPA, GTF Board Member and kidney recipient, and The Educational Foundation of the Georgia Society of CPAs. This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursing an accounting degree with the goal of becoming a CPA.

A Sibling Scholarship will be awarded to the sibling of a transplanted child.

Additionally, GTF awards three General Scholarships to recipients or dependants.

All of these annual scholarships are awards of $2,500. Applications are available online, or call GTF at 770.457.3796 or 866.428.9411.

The deadline is JUNE 1, 2005.
