Apprenticeship Program

The JumpStart Apprenticeship Program allows clients to receive hands-on experience in a variety of skilled and non-skilled work settings. This program is intended to reinforce the competitive strength of clients’ resumes and work skills while improving their opportunity to receive permanent employment.

The Georgia Transplant Foundation compensates JumpStart Apprentices with a stipend for a sixteen week placement.

Each JumpStart Apprentice works for a maximum of sixteen weeks (consecutive or non-consecutive) and for no more than 20 hours each week. The duration typically is limited in this fashion so that JumpStart Apprentices who receive certain government benefits (such as SSI, SSDI, Medicare, or Medicaid) will not become ineligible for these benefits.

Many organizations have established internship programs that cater to students. Often, JumpStart Apprentices are not students, but still have the same work experience, needs, and enthusiasm. As such, we encourage organizations to include a JumpStart Apprenticeship in their current programs. Organizations with large internship “classes” may consider designating at least one intern slot for a qualified JumpStart Apprentice.

JumpStart Apprentices may be employed by the organization or may be engaged as an independent contractor. Apprenticeships need not be a paid position and are compensated by the Georgia Transplant Foundation.
